Title: External Antenna for Garmin 2820
Last Updated:
Published Date: March 29, 2007

Problem:
I found that my Garmin 2820 lost reception many times in what I felt were very mild conditions (small hills and while downtown among tall buildings). The small hills are the foothills located in Northern California.

My Solution:
I purchased the following external antenna (Gilsson MCX Antenna). Testing in the same location I previously lost reception, I now receive at least three to four satellites. The total cost was $28.76 including shipping (and tax if in CA). I was able to pick my cable length (3', 9, 16' - I think) along with straight or right angle connection. I purchased on a Friday morning and received my package on the following Monday (USPS).

I mounted the antenna on my BMR Shelf using Velcro.
