Problem:
Like others, I love to take video
while riding. It is amazing what I catch on video. On one ride, my video was
used by law enforcement in an accident that happened right in front of me.
Too bad for the driver of the vehicle that ran the red light and my video
clearly showed it.
Solution:
With my custom video power cable, I can
leave the camera running all day and when I see something, just hit the record
button. No battery problems and my camera gets about 70 minutes to a single
tape.
Installation:
To mount the camera was easy and took less than five minutes. I bought the
Garmin base mount with my BMR shelf and
drilled two holes in the middle. One hole was dead center and the other hole was
towards the rear. This rear hole allows me to mount the camera and drop my
windshield all the way down. For long rides I feel better using the center
hole. I use red casket material from Lowes to act as a small vibration cushion
which has proven to work well. I use a Canon ZR700 camera with a standard battery
which gives me about 50 minutes of continuous shooting. Changing tapes does take
about 7 minutes since I have to remove the camera and mounting bracket. Not a
huge deal. All my videos can be found at the following
quick link.
