This rally
was a great success. The rally started on Friday and ended on Sunday. I
did not arrive until Friday evening after a long day of riding. Saturday
was a ~120 mile poker run sponsor by the
River City Beemers.
Friday Ride:
Instead of riding straight to the rally on Friday, I
decided to take the long way via the coast. Below is the route that I
took and the ride was great. I left Roseville in the heat, and by the
time I arrived on Hwy 101 around 2:00pm, I hit about 30 minutes of light
rain. Repaving construction on Hwy 20 by Clearlake caused about a 30
minute delay. I was lucky for the opportunity to wait next to a Harley
couple (PICs below) out for a day ride.I ate a late lunch at Hayfork and the food was bad the
service worse and the price even worse. Hayfork is one place I will
never stop at again. After 12 hours of riding, I arrived at 9:45pm.

Saturday Ride:
Saturday morning started out on a "cold" foot due to
freezing the night before. Arriving so late, I did not have the ability
to recover from poor packing. While unpacking I found that most of my
clothes had gotten wet due to a leaking water bottle. This caused me to
sleep without the benefit of my warm clothes. A lesson learned: pack
liquids separate from clothes.
After taking a long hot shower and good breakfast, I got
my second wind and participated in great poker run, great food, great
route and met some really great folks. The weather was perfect in every
way. Temperature was around 65 degrees over the entire route with a
little cooler temperatures for a few miles above 5000 feet on road 120
from Quincy to La Porte. The ride past Little Grass Valley Reservoir was
outstanding. Many riders took a break at one of the many "overlooks"
that are along the lake. I ate lunch at the Rabbit Creek Cafe and while
the service was a little slow due to the large number of riders, the
food was great and the price was even better. La Porte is on my list of
future destinations.
After a great steak dinner Saturday evening, I decided to
ride home and sleep in my own bed with dry clothes. The ride home on Hwy
89 to I-80 was perfect.
